Rio de Janeiro is a great Brazilian city by the sea, famous for the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, for the 38 meter high statue of Christ the Redeemer, on top of Corcovado, and for the Sugarloaf Mountain, a granite peak with cable cars to its summit. The city is also known for its large slums. The exciting Carnival, with floats, extravagant costumes and samba dancers, is considered the largest in the world.
